Eggsy and co. return for a dialed up and dumbed down sequel to 2014’s Kingsman: The Secret Service. Matthew Vaughn’s follow-up does away with the one element that gave the infantile first film a hint of distinction: its British sensibility. That James Bond lovefest took place in a world of gleaming brogues and Savile Row suits. Kingsman: The Golden Circle blows all that to smithereens (literally) and takes Taron Egerton’s Eggsy and Mark Strong’s unnecessarily Scottish accented Merlin over to Kentucky to team up with their US counterparts, Statesman. With Channing Tatum, Halle Berry, Jeff Bridges and a host of other big-name actors in tow, Kingsman have to take on a barbaric drug kingpin (Julianne Moore). It would be more offensive than the first film if it weren’t so inert.
